Congrats Lopez!
Drama. Drama. Drama.
Winner of stage 8 - motorcycles:
Once again Pål Anders Ullevålseter was up at the top, doing his Dakar rally driving. In the lead half the stage - impressive is what we like to call it! Cloes to the end he did get overtaken by Coma, ending up 3rd. The stage was won, second time around, by Chilean Lopez. And Coma did, despite the fact of his time penalty, show a good sportman ship, racing like all other days, ending up second. Cyril Despres won´t put anything ate stake, finishing 5th.
Top 3 overall:
Cyril Despres (FRA) 33h46:21
Pål Anders Ullevålseter (NOR) +01h20:31
Francisco Contardo Lopez (CHL)+01h24:21
Who is sticking to the plan and keeping his head cool? Swedish Captain with capital C is Captain of the ship: Thomas Berglund seems to be rocking steady, and doing it correctly without falling behind. An 11th position as of today. As always, very impressive!
Up ahead!
Today there has been some changes in the Ladies Cup, like throwing dize, what will show up next. As of today, German Christina Meier is in the lead, 8 minutes to Giannetti (ITA) and 15 minutes to Tamsin Jones who´s really showing off today! Mirjam Pol must have had troubles, she has not yet passed the 2nd check point.
And after a long wait, Annie Seel, finally did show up at checkpoint one,+2h47´´53. She was in the lead of the ladies at the 48 kilometer mark, once again showing her racing spirits, as being the 26nd rider on that stretch. Then something happened. 89th after passing cp 1 and now 86th, just passed cp 2, way behind the others. But she is a true fighter and we´ve seen it before - keep going!
Cars
Great Dakar rally this year, leaving noone indifferent! Yet another day in the car category where there has been some changes in the stage lead. Chicherit and Tina Thörner was up at the top in the beginning, overtaken by Sainz, and last to be seen in the lead was Stephane Peterhansel. Nasser Al Attiyah awfully quiet today, then again, the cars do have some time left on the stage. Anything can happen!
307 Chicherit and Tina Thörner Here we go! Keeping the promise to the French fans from Friday, are we? Chicherit said he would give them a third position on the 7th stage, didn´t fullfill that promise, nothing settled as of today, but as of now in a 7th position, catching up today will be hard.
335 Pelle Wallentheim and Olle Ohlsson Interpeting the figures from the first stretch correctly, they will say that Team Tubus racing had a bad start of this stage. Passing the the marking of 48 km as 64th car. Then again moving up, latest news was a 52nd at check point one.
