Swedish co-driver Tina Thörner in the BMW X-raid team reports everyday on her Dakar blog from the stages. This is from her latest entry:
The longest stage of the Dakar rally!
Chichi stayed the night at the hotel, while Tina prepared the roadbook and others which took a lot of time, and had her sleep at the BMW X-raid "bunker". In the morning they made sure to give some cuddeling to the Pitbull (their car) before heading over to the start, where not much was said, Chicherit was taking a nap. Today it was a day all about focus, balance and controll. The first 45 kilometers was being performed in the dunes, working up their sweat.
Twice there was technical problems, the engine came to a stop, fortunately they were able to continue without getting stuck in the sand. Ending up behind Giniel de Villiers in hisVolkswagen riding in the dust at 130km/h, was all about "eating the dust".
Finally the team reached the finish, being done in 5 hours, on a 5th position, advancing from a 86th position day 1 to a 4th in the overall. Not bad at all! The upcoming restday is needed and now Tina will be able to catch up on mail, and others.
When writing this Tina just ordered room service, while Chicherit ate at the hotel dining room, and is enjoying time on her own for a bit (she and Chichi share the same room). Since many have asked why she´s not to be seen on the TV interviews, she says, "believe me, every minute of my time is precious, once passing the finishing line it is important to immediately attend and prepare the next days stage" meaning it´s the drivers job, but also saying that she will be on TV if they finish the rally top 3.
And ofcourse we will be watching out for Tina on TV, expect nothing less now that they´ve proven themselves worthy. From 86th to a 4th... in the Dakar - Nothing is impossible!
