Dakar 2011 - Motorcycle manufacturers share in the rally!

2011 Dakar rally entry list by manufacturer - motorcycles

2009 was definitely KTM´s year! A total number of 126 riders took off on the KTM machines, and the total share among the the motorcycle manufacturers reached 56%. Two years and a financial crisis later the figures do tell a different story, as the numbers dropped by more than half.

KTM is still dominating with 62 riders entering the 2011 Dakar rally, followed by closest competitor Yamaha and 43 riders. 14 more than in the 2010 Dakar rally.  Honda maintains a stable third position, third time around.

Up and comin´seems to be the spirit of Italian motorcycle brands. Aprilia increases its numbers and passes closest competitor BMW with another five vehicles in the upcoming event. And biggest surprise is Tuscany located BETA. 8 riders have enrolled to participate on their vehicles (1 French, 2 Italians and 5 Argentinians), increasing the numbers by 300% in comparison to the 2010 Dakar rally.

Missing completely out of the action is Suzuki, last time observed in the dunes 2009 and at that point of time only carrying one rider.

* Manufacturer not present in the 2010 Dakar rally

** Blanks - The total amount of riders in the motorcycle category listed are 183, somewhat misleading is the last number presented, 186, as there are three numbers blanked out in the motorcycle category, and missing out or presented at a later time are 140, 151 and 152.
